We are well into our 4th year with Operation Steel Rain. It has been a blast. We have met so many great people and have had so much fun. We travel all over the state, teaching people.
If you haven’t gotten your NY State pistol permit yet, I have one question for you....what are you waiting for? Yes, NY is a pain in the butt. Yes, they make it as difficult as they possibly can...and they do it for a reason. To discourage us from wanting to go through the process. To try to get us to give up our rights willingly. To make it difficult, so we think why bother?
We are here to tell you it’s worth it! We are firm 2A supporters and believe in our constitutional rights.
We started Operation Steel Rain on a whim. My father saw the ad in the paper for the NRA instructor course and said, “You know Rick would be good at this” So Rick went and took the class...with only the intention of becoming an instructor..not even starting a business. We did a class locally, and that was it for us..it was love at first class!
We have hundreds of classes under our belt with thousands of students after four years. Rick has added a few other certifications to his list...but in case you haven’t take a class with us let me tell you a little bit about my fantastic instructor (I MAY be a tiny bit biased since I am married to the instructor! LOL)
Rick was in the US Army for 27 years. He is a retired SGT Major who spent 22 of those years as a Sniper. He also specialized in close-quarter combat, perimeter security and spent three years as a Drill Sgt. He spent almost 12 years of his career on nine different deployments to exotic destinations that most would only dream about (Ha! Isn’t that what the Army advertises LOL!) He is NRA, USCCA, and Utah Certified. He is an RSO (Range Safety Officer), and we are also an FFL (federally licensed firearm dealer). He has taught thousands of gun safety and how to shoot. We have also been teaching at Jefferson Community College, both Watertown and Lowville Campus, for about a year now!
We currently teach classes in Lewis, Jefferson, Oswego, Madison, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Oneida, Erie and Genesee Counties. Along with the Utah Non-resident Multi-State. We keep thinking we are going to add in more counties, but we stay pretty busy with the ones we are doing currently.
We also do a lot of private classes of both the NY State and the Utah Class.
A little about us. I suppose I should have introduced myself up at the beginning, but I am Christina, Rick’s wife. We have been together for almost 20 years. When he retired, we bought ourselves a little farm and so far have filled it up with chickens, ducks, geese (we are up to 15!!) guinea fowl, and we just added turkeys! We also have a dog, two rabbits, three parakeets, and four kids!! We only have two at home right now as our kids range from 33 to 9!
We have a private range that we practice consistently. Because we tell everyone..if you are going to own a firearm and carry a firearm, you need to practice practice practice...and then when you are done...practice some more!
We love working together, and we think that we offer a unique perspective with our classes as there isn’t (that we know of) another husband and wife team that does this kind of thing together. We have a blast doing it. We work together, he trains our kids and me, and we share our love of it all with everyone.
